South Australian sporting organisations can apply for their share in more than $6.8 million of funding, through the Marshall Government’s Active Club Program (ACP) and the Community Recreation and Sport Facilities Program (CRSFP).

To help sport bounce back from COVID-19, the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing (ORSR) has launched its ACP ‘Club Reboot Round’ where $2.495 million will be made available for clubs to receive up to $3,000 for equipment and program funding.

A further $4.328 million is also up for grabs through the CRSFP, where individual projects across the state can apply for up to $1 million in funding to improve and develop recreation and sport facilities.

Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing Corey Wingard said ensuring the sport and recreation industry can rebuild after the crippling global pandemic is a top priority; therefore both programs have been reviewed and realigned to spread the funding as far as possible.

“The Club Reboot Round (Round 49 of the ACP) is providing grants for more sporting groups than ever before with an aim to fund up to 1,200 clubs,” Minister Wingard said.

“Previously this program has received a maximum of 697 applications but this year we anticipate that because of COVID that number will increase substantially.

“The Marshall Government has also taken feedback on board from last year’s community consultation to streamline the application process for both programs. The ACP is now only for equipment and programs with its facilities portion rolled into the CRSFP.

“Maximising the number of recipients is part of the Government’s strategic Game On framework, which aims to get South Australians more active more often.

“I strongly encourage all those involved in SA sporting organisations to consider applying for these programs which will ensure South Australians can continue to access quality recreation and sport activities and facilities.”

The increased budget allocation for this year’s ACP recognises that clubs may need immediate support to purchase hygiene products and re-stock fridges and canteens in order to resume play.

Projects applying for the CRSFP will generally be required to contribute at least 50% of the project costs unless otherwise specified, and are strongly encouraged to work with the ORSR to produce an application which meets the approved guidelines, assessment criteria and objectives of the program.

Through the ACP, applications are awarded funding based on prioritisation against the program’s principals and for the CRSFP, applications will be evaluated and recommended by a funding assessment committee against the relative merit of other applications in meeting the program’s criteria.

Since 1996 the Active Club Program has provided more than $47 million in funding through more than 10,000 grants to local community organisations.

Applications for the ACP open Monday 10 August and applications for the CRSFP will open mid-October.
