Sport and active recreation clubs impacted by drought in regional and greater metropolitan areas have a week left to apply for a new grant program, set to deliver targeted relief to help communities stay active.
Grants up to $5,000 are available through the Regional Drought Relief Round, which is a new and additional round of the Active Club Program.
The State Government established the Regional Drought Relief Round – totalling $2 million in support – to ensure regional clubs can continue to provide services their communities rely on.
The new measure is part of the Government’s comprehensive $73 million package to support drought affected communities across South Australia.
More than 220 clubs have applied for funding since the Regional Drought Relief Round opened in mid-April, with a strong uptake in the Yorke and Mid North, Eyre and Western, and Limestone Coast regions.
Recognising the immediate need for assistance, over 70 clubs have already been screened and approved to receive funding – meaning grants can be used to relieve financial pressure quickly.
Grants can be used for water-saving and drought-resilient measures like rainwater tanks, smart irrigation controllers and new or upgraded irrigation infrastructure, along with utility bill relief and energy efficiency initiatives.
Funding can also cover essential costs such as equipment, uniforms and program delivery – helping to reduce barriers to participation and promote physical activity.
Clubs are encouraged to spend the funding locally to stimulate their community.
Applications close on Wednesday 28 May.
