More than 100 people heard from leaders across the AFL landscape at a special breakfast this morning, kicking off an exciting Gather Round weekend.

Hosted by broadcaster and AFLW premiership player Abbey Holmes, the Power Up Community Breakfast celebrated the growth of female participation in AFL – from community to the elite.

The growth of females in a traditionally male-dominated industry was explored by panel members including AFL Executive General Manager of Football Laura Kane, SANFL State Coaching Manager Dave Reynolds, SANFL Head of Community Football Shawn Ford and AFLW star Ebony Marinoff.

The event, continuing the legacy of the highly successful The Power of Her Women in Leadership Symposium held during the FIFA Women’s World Cup, was designed to attract leaders from organisations and clubs across the spectrum of sport to learn more about how sport can empower women and girls and open doors for future generations.

This exciting networking opportunity is just one in a huge calendar of community-focused events – including free SANFL clinics, the Footy Festival in Elder Park, concert activities, the Norwood Food and Wine Festival and Gather In The Hills to name a few.

Further The Power of Her events are being scheduled throughout the year to maintain the momentum – for more information, visit www.thepowerofher.com.au

When we witness and celebrate the strength, physicality, talent and power of our female sporting stars, it transforms the way women and the roles they can play in sport and everywhere are seen.

The inaugural Gather Round was a huge success, and has no doubt inspired a whole new generation of future AFL stars.

We’re thrilled to harness that power created by Gather Round to advance lasting change and look forward to hearing insights from leaders in footy about how the growth in women’s football can help us take further steps toward gender equality.
