Design for the State Centre of Football begins whilst we wait on transfer of land to build it on and international bids for the Super-Drome Wind Tunnel.

Super Drome

Greenway Architects have commenced the design for the $19m State Centre of Football, in the north east corner of the State Sports Park, with construction expected to start early in the new year.

We are now waiting for Cabinet to approve the land for transfer from the Minister for Environment and Water in May, which is the culmination of over a year’s discussion and process with DEW, DTF, DPTI and others.

Tenders for the $5m ‘wind tunnel’, aka the National Centre for Sports Aerodynamics, will be submitted by the end of March. It will be housed in a building immediately to the east of the Super-Drome about 60m  x 25m x 3 storeys high, with construction to begin towards Spring.

This, and future developments at the State Sports Park, are underpinned by the State Sports Park Master Plan, of which Stage 1 – Structure Plan has recently been completed. Please take a few minutes to have a look at what’s planned and the interactive planning process used.

We will undertake community engagement in April. Stage 2 - Concept Design for each activity in the precinct will be completed by the end of May.

Thereafter, as well as providing context and development principles for the State Centre of Football, Wind Tunnel and future developments, it will be used as the basis for public and private sector funding and partnerships.
