Marion’s South Australian Aquatic and Leisure Centre (SAALC) has received a prestigious nod with its designation as an Australian Olympic and Paralympic Training Venue ahead of Paris 2024.

It is expected the designation, which recognises the facility as world class, will lead to more athletes, coaches and support staff visiting Adelaide for training camps and competitions across pool-based sports.

More than 100 medals have been won at international events over the past decade by swimmers, divers and water polo players based out of the Marion centre.

State-of-the-art facilities at the site include a 50-metre competition pool, a water polo and dive pool, a fully equipped fitness centre and recovery spaces.

The centre's cutting-edge amenities create an optimal training environment that enable athletes to refine their skills, enhance their capabilities, and achieve peak performance levels.

At recent international events, South Australian athletes have consistently medalled at a rate above what could be expected from the State’s population.

With a home Olympic and Paralympic Games less than a decade away, this designation provides South Australia with an advantage to develop athletes.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing Katrine Hildyard

The South Australian Aquatic and Leisure Centre has provided a worthy home to elite athletes since it was established by the State Government a decade ago.

We have cheered on swimmers like Madi Wilson and Kyle Chalmers who have won Gold at the Olympics. Swimmers who honed their craft in this pool.

This designation is fitting, and it sets SA up for great future success at international events, with Paris 2024 next year, and the home Games in Brisbane in 2032.

The SAALC has been very well embraced by the community who have enjoyed the facilities alongside elite athletes.
