Following on from the remarkable success of the State Government’s Women in Leadership symposium The Power of Her, held during the FIFA Women’s World Cup, South Australia’s national sporting teams will use its momentum to boost support for women’s sport.

Adelaide United, Port Adelaide, Adelaide Crows, Adelaide Strikers, Adelaide Lightning and Adelaide Thunderbirds will join forces in an effort to drive crowds to women’s sport events and showcase how incredible SA’s female athletes are.

In conjunction with the State Government, all six clubs will encourage their own members and fans to support a key game for the other teams, with clubs providing marketing, communications, and ticketing support to each other to help sell out each of these games.

The Power of Her featured games are:

  • Adelaide United v Canberra United – Sunday 15 October 2023 (Coopers Stadium)
  • Port Adelaide v Gold Coast – Saturday 21 October 2023 (Alberton Oval)
  • Adelaide Crows v North Melbourne – Sunday 29 October 2023 (Unley Oval)
  • Adelaide Lightning v Southside Flyers – Saturday 18 November 2023 (Adelaide 36ers Arena)
  • Adelaide Strikers v Perth Scorchers – Friday 24 November 2023 (Adelaide Oval)
  • Adelaide Thunderbirds – TBC late March or early April 2024

This initiative builds on the State Government’s commitment to empower women and girls in sport and to advance gender equality, including through the legacy possible from the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

An $18 million grant program will be delivered over the next three years, dedicated to female sporting facilities and programs that grow female participation.

Legacy funding was expended on The Power of Her and is being focused on efforts through sport to prevent domestic violence.

The Women in Sport Taskforce was also launched last year, and is working to tackle gender inequality in sport and all that inhibits girls and women from actively and equally participating in the sport they love.

The Power of Her Women in Leadership symposium was so powerful. It saw more than 1,000 people come together to advance gender equality and open doors for future generations. Attendees left determined to advance enduring change together that makes a difference in the lives of girls and women.

Through this powerful step forward, these outstanding South Australian women’s teams will absolutely advance change together. I am incredibly thankful for their willingness to get together – when women support other women, powerful change is possible.

The Power of Her aimed to create a lasting legacy through harnessing the momentum and energy from the FIFA Women’s World Cup. I am thrilled that this group is using that energy to collectively bring more supporters to women’s sport.

By selling out these games, more people will witness the powerful change in attitude that is possible when we see women being celebrated for being strong, powerful and talented on their particular playing pitch.

When we witness and celebrate the strength and power of our female sporting stars, it transforms the way women and the roles they can play are seen – if she can see it, she can absolutely be it!
