The Malinauskas Government will provide $1 million over the next two years to realise the potential legacy of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 and to ensure South Australia embraces the opportunities that come from this once in a generation event.
The funding from the State Government will be used to grow participation in football, develop women’s leadership and deliver programs in clubs and communities aimed at preventing violence against women and children.
A portion of the funding is earmarked for the rollout of a public awareness campaign targeting the prevention of violence against women and children, alongside a complementary education program to be run in clubs within the State.
The State Government will partner with Football South Australia (FSA), tasking the state’s peak football body with leading the delivery of football participation programs.
The Malinauskas Government will also be conducting an international standard Women in Leadership symposium to be held during next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup.
This announcement comes on top of the $350,000 already announced for changeroom upgrades at Marden Sports Complex, home of the Adelaide Blue Eagles.

We will not waste this brilliant opportunity to further causes that tackle gender inequality and all that inhibits girls and women from equally and actively participating in the sport they love and in every aspect of community life, develop safer communities, and open doors for future generations of women and girls.
Hosting five matches of the FIFA Women’s World Cup means so much for our state in terms of growing participation, welcoming visitors, having the eyes of the world on our state, and inspiring future generations of footballers; its legacy for women and girls will be enduring and powerful.
