Former Australian netballer Jenny Borlase OAM has been appointed SASI Netball Head Coach.

Former Australian netballer Jenny Borlase OAM has been appointed South Australian Sports Institute (SASI) Netball Head Coach.

Borlase, 49, replaces Tania Obst, who was appointed assistant coach with GIANTS netball in the newly formed Suncorp Super Netball competition.

Borlase enjoyed an outstanding career as a player in one of Australia's golden eras in netball. She played 70 Tests for Australia and was a member of world champion Australian teams in 1991, 1995 and 1999.

She also played in Australia's 1998 Commonwealth Games gold medal-winning team.

Earlier in her career Borlase was a mainstay of Garville teams in the state competition and with Adelaide Ravens in the now defunct Commonwealth Bank Trophy (CBT) competition.

Borlase is currently a specialist coach with the Adelaide Thunderbirds and has also worked recently at the Australian Institute of Sport, Centre of Excellence in Canberra coaching young netballers in the tall athlete program.

Borlase said she was looking forward to overseeing the development of SA's promising young athletes.

“I am really excited to be working with SA's up-and-coming stars with the aim to develop them to be Diamonds (players),” she said.

“I have enjoyed my hand in coaching and the SASI program is just the perfect way to be involved in helping young players develop in a high-performance environment.”

SASI Director Wes Battams was pleased to welcome Borlase to the program.

“SASI has been able to maintain the superior quality of the SASI Netball Head Coach appointments with the appointment of Jenny Borlase,” he said.

“She follows in the footsteps of Tania Obst and the legendary Margaret Angove.”

Head of High Performance Netball Australia Andrew Collins also backed Borlase's appointment.

“We are very excited to have Jenny appointed to the SASI coaching role,” he said.

“She has made a great contribution to the national netball centre of excellence over recent years and has shown a strong passion for developing young athletes.

“She understands what it takes to be successful at the highest levels of the sport and will be a great influence on South Australia's best young netballers.”
