Irrigation upgrade a big winner
The grass at the Noarlunga United Soccer Club’s Number 3 ground has just got a whole lot greener… and lusher… and watering it is more efficient – thanks to an overhaul of its irrigation system.
Until recently, the ground – used by the club’s junior players - was the only one of NUSC’s three home pitches without an in-ground irrigation system. Its ‘system’ consisted of a single moveable sprinkler, which had to be shifted around by volunteers. It was time-consuming, a drain on volunteer resources, and not terribly water-wise.
Now, finally, the juniors’ ground has secured its own state-of-the-art in-ground irrigation network! The total cost: $26,000, with the Office for Recreation and Sport contributing $13,000 under Round 41 of the Active Club Program (the remaining $13,000 came from the City of Onkaparinga).
Club spokesperson Sean Carroll says it’ll take about a year for the full benefits of the new watering network to come through, but already the surface is better, and safer, for NUSC’s 120 junior players.
Mr Carroll says it will also allow the Morphett Vale-based club to use its volunteers’ time better - and save on water bills!
