Senior athletics comp more polished, professional & policy-driven
It didn’t take long for SAMA – South Australian Masters Athletics – to start showing the benefits of being a STARCLUB.
Shortly after becoming a Recognised STARCLUB, SAMA hosted the Australian Masters Athletics National Track and Field Championships, in Adelaide, in April 2016.
It turned out to be the largest national AMA meet ever!
SA’s officials say having the team at STARCLUB run its ruler over SAMA’s policies and procedures, helped identify areas for improvement and growth – and show how to achieve those goals. (It also helped identify some missing policies!)
“All necessary policies being in place ensured that all aspects [of organising the national championships] were conducted in a professional way,” a spokesperson said.
Being a registered STARCLUB helped prioritise SAMA’s application for Active Club Program funding from the Office for Recreation and Sport, ultimately enabling it to buy a complete new set of throwing equipment for last year’s championships.
…All of which makes South Australian Masters Athletics very optimistic about the future.
Right now it has about 250 members of all athletic abilities (including those with disabilities): as it continues to strive for ‘best practice’, it’s confident of attracting many more over-30s who want to stay fit, meet people - and just enjoy life!
