SASI searches for rowing talent

SASI is asking young athletes to take the plunge and make the switch to rowing.

The South Australian Sports Institute (SASI) is asking young athletes to take the plunge and make the switch to rowing.

A new campaign, which leads with the line ‘going backwards could take you a long way’ aims to identify athletes aged 16-25 years and competitive at any sport or activity at State representative level who have the physical and mental toughness to become future Olympic champions.

SASI Head Rowing Coach Jason Lane described the talent search as a great opportunity to develop the stars of tomorrow.

“Rowing is a sport that can be extremely rewarding. It encourages discipline, dedication, organisation and teamwork. We are asking athletes who have these qualities and are up for a challenge to give rowing a go and see how far it could take them,” Jason said.

“We are looking for mentally tough and competitive young athletes who are tall and strong with long arms and legs and have great endurance.  If athletes meet these criteria they don’t need to have previous rowing experience”, he said.

SASI will be appealing to young athletes through social media, as well as promotion at sports and high performance fitness clubs.
