SASI cyclists on an international roll

SASI cyclists on an international roll

Five SASI athletes competed in the Paralympic World Track Championships in Aguascalientes, Mexico, 10-14 April: vision-impaired para-cyclists Felicity Johnson and Kieran Modra and pilot cyclists Holly Takos, Breanna Hargraves and Jason Niblett, who is also an Assistant SASI Cycling Coach.

Niblett and Modra claimed two silvers in the men's tandum sprint 1km time trials and Breanna Hargrave took home two silvers in the women's 1km tandum sprint time trail and the women's tandum sprint.

The Championships were also a qualification event for the athletes. Assistant SASI Cycling Coach Ben Cook said, "As a result of the event, everyone is in good standing for Commonwealth Games selection to be decided in May".

Ben, who has been with SASI for the past seven years, has recently accepted a position with the ACT Academy of Sport, where he will assume the role of Head Coach of Cycling.

Junior SASI cyclists Alexandra Manley, Danielle McKinnirey, Callum Scotson and Alexander Porter have gained selection to compete in the endurance events at the Junior Track World Championships to be held in Korea from 8-12 August 2014.
