Thunderbirds make history

The South Australian Thunderbirds won the ANZ Championship title, defeating the Queensland Firebirds 50-48 in a game that came down to the last few minutes.

The Thunderbirds capped off an extraordinary home and away series to claim the top prize from a very determined and talented Queensland side.

The Thunderbirds are now the first ANZ Championship team to win two grand finals.

Over 10,000 fans watched the game at the Entertainment Centre and many more followed the live coverage.

Premier Jay Weatherill will hold a reception for the team at Parliament House  in acknowledgment of their achievements.

Netball remains one of the most popular sports in South Australia and the State Government continues to support its development through a range of programs.

Netball SA recently received $115,000 from the State Government for development and support programs for the next generation of Thunderbirds.
