SA sportswoman have a new presence on Wikipedia

Wikipedia - woman is sports

To highlight the importance of women’s sport in South Australia, the Office for Recreation and Sport (ORS) has helped capture the history of SA sportswomen via a digital footprint.

Stage 1 of the Wikipedia Women in Sport Project has been completed. It involved:
  •     updating the Wikipedia page
  •     editing existing sports-related Wikipedia pages to ensure links to new profiles
  •     compiling existing Wikipedia profiles into a list linked to the Sport in South Australia page
  •     creating new profiles, with a focus on significant contributors with limited or no digital history including living and deceased sports persons, sports administrators and journalists.
More than 100 profiles exist, with numerous profiles yet to be completed.

The next stage of the project is to promote the importance of this digital platform and train individuals from the sports industry to add to or enhance the digital footprint of the state’s outstanding sportswomen.

This project complements the ORS's focus on raising the profile of and increasing opportunities for South Australian women in sport.
