In fact, 72% of Australian sport volunteers are involved in organisations that are staffed entirely by volunteers (2013).

Through the Active Lives survey (2019) conducted by the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing (ORSR) we found that South Australians who volunteered for a sport organisation more than once in the previous 12 months were more satisfied with their life, felt that things they did were more worthwhile and were happier than those people who did not volunteer or volunteered only once.
South Australians who did volunteer more than once in the previous 12 months also had higher social capital measures than those people who did not volunteer or volunteered only once.
Social capital measures are focused on social relationships, social cohesion, and social interactions. Social capital is important because it represents the productive benefits of sociability.
